About Genesis

Background

The Genesis Training Center was first envisioned when the Northwest Christian Evangelistic Association (NWCEA) partnered with several other entities to establish Our Place—Your Christian Church in Hillsboro in 2002. Our Place was intended to be a “regional impact” church that would provide a base for a movement of church multiplication.  Steve Brooke (lead pastor at Our Place), Tom Brown (Executive Director for NWCEA) and others had a vision for establishing a training center that would provide ongoing resources, training, and support for thgenesislogoangled600SMis movement of church planting. The name “Genesis” was chosen for its biblically-rooted image of something that is beginning, something new. Since 2005, Cliff Berger has been working with NWCEA to develop training and mentoring ministries with church planters, and this has evolved into a role as Director of the ministries of the Genesis Training Center. Our Place—Your Christian Church houses the offices for NWCEA and the Genesis Training Center, and is the primary host congregation for events and services that Genesis offers.

Ministries

Over the past several years Genesis has sponsored training events that include church-plant launch readiness camps, parent church training, church planter assessments, and training in coaching and mentoring for church planters. Other more general resources for churches in the community include seminars and workshops on dealing with stress in ministry, evangelism training, discipleship and small groups, understanding Postmodernism, leadership, etc.

We are currently working on a certificate-based program of courses in basic biblical studies and ministry. A basic set of six courses will be offered for the school year beginning in September, 2007. These courses will be taught be a faculty of local pastors and leaders, all of whom have masters or doctoral degrees in biblical studies and ministry. These courses are for anyone who wishes to deepen their understanding of the Bible, theology, church history, and ministry.  Check out the “Course Info” section of this website for more detailed information.

Genesis seeks to serve not only the needs of the church planting and multiplication movement, but to be a resource for the church at large, in the Portland Metro area and beyond.  We welcome your participation and your ideas and feedback on what we have to offer!.
